Need summer childcare in Chester? AFYA Sports Training have not one, but two holiday camps running this summer from 23rd July -31st August 2018, offering Multisports & Activities for children aged 4.5-13yrs. It’s the perfect way to sort your summer childcare issues, but also make sure the children are having active, healthy fun at the same time!

Our Multisport & Activity course will be running as usual at the Nuffield Health Life Centre on Chester Business Park from 23rd July- 31st August 2018 and we are also launching a NEW holiday camp running at Abbey Gate College– which will run from 30th July- 31st August 2018, giving us a wider coverage of the Chester area.

At both we have a huge variety of sports on offer- delivered by professional coaches and teaching staff. Our choice of sports means there is something for everyone with AFYA from football to dancing,  fencing to martial arts. Children also have a wide choice of activities such as art, singing and science. They will always learn something new with AFYA!

Camp Details

Locations: Nuffield Health Centre (CH4 9FB)  or Abbey Gate College (CH3 6HZ)

You can drop off and pick up your children anytime between 9am and 5.30pm.

Cost: £35 per child/per day. Child care vouchers accepted.

An early drop off at 8am is available for just £5 extra.

AFYA Sports Launch Rugby & Netball Development Camps At Cheadle Hulme School

Over the summer, AFYA have a number of multisport, sports specific and player development courses happening around Cheshire & beyond!

From 25th-27th July 2018, AFYA will be running 2 courses at Cheadle Hulme School  on rugby & netball development. These courses have been specifically designed to be engaging & fun for kids, but also incorporate sports insights that have generated some of the leading teams & athletes across the world-

 The AFYA Netball Development Camp is suitable for children aged 8-14yrs and will be led by 25 times internationally capped & Superleague netballer- Laura Malcolm. The course is ideal for young players who take part in netball at school and/or a local club. The focus is on thorough enjoyment of the game, team building, skills & agility development and taking players next level! Includes small group activities, strategy discussion and match play. Guest coaches across the course including select Manchester Thunder team players will also be dropping in. This is an exciting chance for players to work with a highly respected netball coach and benefit from her top level experience.

 The AFYA Rugby Development Camp is suitable for children aged  8-13yrs and is suitable for players who play rugby at school and/or club level. The AFYA rugby development course takes players through rugby strength & conditioning, tackling technique, team building exercises,game strategy & match play. Led by James Wade (Wasps, Sales Sharks & head coach at Oxford University Rugby) & Scott Pearson (ex strength & conditioning for team GB cycling). The camp is also delivered by international level ex rugby player & coach Martin Gleeson & British Lion-Andy Titterrell. No other rugby camp delivers this access to elite standard,  top flight coaching. A fantastic opportunity for any budding rugby players!

 Both rugby & netball camps are £35 per day or £100 for the full 3 day course. Training is from 0930-1530, but early drop off is available from 0830 and late pick up to 1630. Places are limited.

Martin Gleeson Joins AFYA For USA 7s Event

This Saturday 26th May sees AFYA and THE ATHLETE FACTORY join forces to host the USA 7s squad at Chester Rugby Club.

From 1000- 1330 over 150 local junior rugby players will get to experience rugby drills, skills and technical challenges alongside these international legends of the sport.

We are also pleased to announce that we will be joined on the day by Martin Gleeson- former pro rugby league player and both Great Britain and England international. In an illustrious career he won the Super League twice and the Challenge Cup, playing for clubs including Wigan, Huddersfield, St Helens, Warrington, Hull and Salford.

Martin will be running skills sessions for youngsters on the day, offering his vast experience and knowledge on the game, as both a player and a coach.

AFYA Sports Training Welcomes New Team Member

AFYA has been growing rapidly and has now consolidated this growth with the recruitment of Alex Uprichard, who will lead the business in marketing and business development going forward.

Alex has a Business Studies Degree from Manchester Met University and worked in advertising & partnerships for 15 years at major companies including McCann Erickson, Mediavest and MTV.

After having children, she cofounded website and social media network- Mums in the Know- which gave local tips & hints to make family life easier and kids lives fun in 70 different areas across the UK. The site grew to have over 500,000 readers and social media followers and the company was acquired by Lifecycle Marketing in 2015.

In addition to her work with AFYA, Alex also works with sports specialist physiotherapy practice Harris & Ross, running marketing & business development.

Aswell as having a passion for growing start ups and working with businesses to target audiences effectively, Alex and her family are huge sports enthusiasts. When not playing netball, running or doing yoga, Alex can be found supporting her children and husband in an array of sporting endeavours.

Alex says, ‘I am really excited about the opportunity to work with AFYA- it combines an array of my experience and interest areas- marketing, business development, sport and wellbeing! I look forward to helping grow AFYA into a nationally recognised provider of quality sports coaching and development.’

Join AFYA & The USA 7s Team At The Athlete Factory

On Saturday 26th May the USA 7s team will be visiting The Athlete Factory, Chester whilst preparing for the London HSBC 7s rugby competition.

AFYA Sports Training are inviting local junior rugby teams to apply to attend the USA 7s training camp, meet the players and develop rugby skills alongside the likes of Perry Baker (7s world player of the year) and Carlin Isles (fastest player in world rugby).

Also in attendance will be sports specialist physiotherapy team Harris & Ross, offering sports massage and support to players on the day.

This exclusive event is open to a select number of teams only and due to it’s limited capacity is likely to fill up fast.  Bookings will be taken on a first come first served basis so please get in touch as soon as possible.

Watch AFYA’s Scott Pearson on Rugby Wrap Up

AFYA’s very own Scott Pearson appeared on Rugby Wrap Up at the weekend.

Scott, one of our fantastic Strength and Conditioning Coaches, appeared on the programme to discuss whether we are training our rugby players to only play for 60 minutes with speed training for 10 meter runs.

Scott has worked with Worcester Warriors, Sale Sharks and Doncaster Knights as well as with Olympic medal winners. He appeared on the programme with elite 7s coach Steve Lewis and host Matt McCarthy and it made for some great viewing.

AFYA & FITISM JOIN FORCES

AFYA Sports Training & FITISM are delighted to announce a new working partnership to promote Sports Training and Strength & Conditioning for the aspiring young athlete FITISM is a unique and specialist gym based in the heart of Wilmslow providing specialist facilities and high level personal coaching and development founded by Matt Kay AFYA has joined forces with FITISM to provide specialist Rugby, Speed and Strength & Conditioning Training.

One of the other key components will be a focus on Nutrition and Healthy Eating
The programme will be in partnership with Wilmslow RUFC.

James Wade Head Coach Oxford University and formerly Head of Player Development WASPS RUFC and Head Coach Sale Sharks Academy along with Scott Pearson Olympic Coach with 8 Gold medals to his name will be leading the programme.

Bookings open for rugby camp coming to Caldy Rugby Club in New Year

Top rugby coaches will be coming to the Wirral in the New Year to run a coaching camp for young players.

AFYA Sports Training will be running the rugby camp at Caldy Rugby Club to develop skills.

The Coaching Camp will take place on January 20th 10am – 2:30pm and is open to players aged 9-15. It costs £17 for the day, which includes a club lunch and option to watch the 1st Team as well in their National 1 home match.

AFYA partners with leading tackling equipment provider Shadowman and will be using their training tools in the camp. Team building, leadership development and tackle techniques will also be key elements of the course.

Ben Wood, Managing Director of AFYA, known for its sports coaching excellence, said: “We’re looking forward to bringing Shadowman to Caldy Rugby Club. Shadowman’s innovative training products allow players to really work on their speed and agility as well as their one-on-one tackling and tracking.

“This is also great opportunity for young rugby players to be trained by our team of professional coaches and players who have played and coached at National or International level.

“We will be covering a wide range of techniques including Individual Tackle Technique and Tackle Development, Defensive Structure and Strength & Conditioning. We will also be looking at team building and leadership development skills training that can be used on and off the pitch.”

AFYA is led by Ben Wood, a former Army officer and qualified RFU coach, and James Wade, a top coach who was Head of Player Development at Wasps, Head of Sale Sharks Academy and is currently Head Coach at Oxford University RUFC (The Blues).
